Six workshop sessions

Up to three workshops each session

Up to 18 workshops in total!

Workshops are where we learn about our tech, each other, and our God.

Workshops

Workshops are at the core of the ICCM experience. This is where we learn and grow. We host up to 18 workshops in six sessions. Each workshop fits in one of five themed tracks: Basic & Advanced Tech, Web & App Development, Leadership & Management, Security, and Christian Growth.

The following is a work in process. Workshops marked as (Pending) are unconfirmed for various reasons.

Tech & Dev Track

Workshops covering some features of a piece of technology.
We try to address both people who already understand the basics, but also make it worthwhile for people that just get started with something new to them.
We also have some workshops for Developers.

Thu - 13:00 - COBOL

Samuel

Building beautiful applications for Android, iOS, web, desktop... with just a single code base? Sounds impressive and cost-efficient. Flutter is still young but already stable on all platforms. A new framework with a learning curve but well-designed and without all that baggage of older frameworks and programming languages.

In this workshop I'll give you an introduction and will show you: How does it feel like to develop with it?
Based on my own experience with developing the 4training.net app in the last months I'll show you how to get started with dart and flutter and how to effectively develop with it: development environment, debugging, testing... Along the way I'll answer all the questions you have as good as I can.
Spoiler: I'm happy with my choice to use flutter for app development.

About Samuel:
After studying computer science I didn't start to work in that area. Instead I focused for ten years on making disciples and trained people to live like Jesus. For that I started to develop reproducible training resources and implemented good software development practices: make it open source, version control it, have a release strategy...
In the last three years God led me to focus more on computer science again, catching up with technology and doing more software development. I started the initiative HolyDevelopers because I believe Jesus needs the developers in His kingdom and has a number of things He'd love to see implemented so that the rest of His body can work together better.

In this workshop about CSS, we'll focus on some of its lesser-known but powerful features. We'll learn the difference between Grid and Flexbox and when to use each. How to use CSS variables which can make your code more powerful while also making it easier to read and maintain. And we'll look at media queries that let you change the formatting depending on the current screen size.

AI and missions and the global church

Philipp

Are you still relying on tools like Notepad++, XAMPP and FileZilla/FTP to develop and manage your websites, losing track of what's happening with your code locally and on your host? It's time to get familiar with Docker, GitLab/GitHub, Node/NPM, Composer, and the like and start building your own modern web development workflow. You are already using these tools? Then let's look at how you can use them even more effectively.

Security Track

Workshops with a focus on security. This can help to increase awareness, but also look into technical aspects of security.

Sean

So you've decided to be the hero and make your team's tech safer. But guess what? The journey might be tricky, like carrying the ring to Mordor. Don't worry, we'll help you find the way.

Before you take one more step, let's do a check-up. Where are you right now? Is anything not working right? Where do you want to go? And how did you end up with all this security stuff?

In this workshop, we're going to give you an easy guide to figure out how safe you are, where you want to be, and how to get there.

We'll talk about the cyber journey, something called the Cyber Defense Matrix, and how you how to check yourself. We'll also give you examples of where you might want to go and help you plan how to get there. At the end, we'll even apply it with you live.

Joachim

Perhaps you have thought about contracting a penetration test for your organization but didn't know how to start. In this workshop I would like to talk about some basics of how to contract a company, methodology and what a contract should contain.

Daniel and Raphael

Together we will explore the current state of FIDO2 Security Keys and Passkeys. First, we will cover the technical basics and look into how to get started. Then, it's time to get your hands dirty: Try out and compare different security keys and passkeys while we discuss use cases and answer questions.

Christian Growth Track

Workshops that encourage us in our individual walk with Jesus. Because Geeks are people too, they need Jesus and these workshops help us set our hearts and minds on him.

Ralf

We are all linked to other people like parents, siblings, teachers, friends, pastors, bosses… The bonding we experience in our lives is how we are made. Still, we are challenged to sometimes move on and untie some knots. For example, Genesis 2 speaks about leaving our parents and moving on. In this workshop, we will talk about the different levels of connections – material, memory, emotional, sensory – and ways to leave behind some of the bondages that still hold us.

About Ralf:

Ralf studied engineering before he joined OM almost 25 years ago. His experience in mission is in roles like system administration, user support, NGO worker in central Asia but also Sunday school helper 😊 . Currently he is working in personnel to support German workers in their ministry.

The first time Ralf fell in love and was turned down he realized how important it is to end relationships well. One of his favorite verses is John 8:36 “if the son sets you free, you will be free indeed”.

Leadership & Management Track

Workshops that help leaders better understand and work with tech-minded people. Geeks are people, too.

Jelle

Whether we call it a ``workshop`` or not, we all need to share information and skills with groups of people. It is 'part of the job', but it is not easy to get it right. Both the preparation and the actual presentation can be quite stressful for us presenters. For the participants, a workshop can be boring or simply irrelevant. How do we avoid such pitfalls?
In this workshop, we work with a simple system that will help you design and facilitate successful, fun, and low-stress workshops. The focus is on workshop design: not the slides, but the structure, the learning outcomes, and the various formats you can rely upon to achieve these outcomes. A well-designed workshop is easier to facilitate and more fun for the participants.

Heba Smit

Life and leadership is a co-creation between God and mankind. God has a
plan and we are called into partnership with God and one another to
fulfill that plan. This workshop will be no different; a facilitated,
interactive environment where we - anyone who is interested in
leadership and personal growth - can come together, learn and offer
valuable insights on the work and life challenges we currently face in
2024. How do we maintain our sense of security and wellbeing in this
fast-changing world? What do we truly value and should we perhaps
prioritize more? How do we lead our employees optimally for the
company's and their benefit? This workshop is for anyone who is open and
willing to rethink the role we play as today's leaders. We will explore
concepts such as shared (or partnered) leadership, self-organization,
inner sustainability, inclusivity and how to empower both leaders and
employees. I will share my experiences, success stories and obstacles as
People & Operations Lead at Utrecht University of Applied Sciences and I
look forward to learning from each and every one of you as well. Please
note: you do not have to be in a leadership position to come j

Between 70-90% of breaches, business email compromise, and cybersecurity incidents involve some sort of human element, such as falling victim to a phishing scam or other social engineering tricks. We must use technology, processes, and our people to protect ourselves and our organizations from this threat vector. This session will talk about how to avoid becoming a victim to social engineering and what we need to do to keep our organization and workers safe.

Immo

I'll share my views on working with different IT service
providers.
We'll discuss experiences, practices, budgeting, agreements, data
security, information security, service management, training, resources,
personnel, you name it. Based on discussion we'll learn how to acquire
an example service.

Time permitting we'll conduct an exercise service acquisition. For the
exercise you'll need a laptop which optionally could be booted and
installed from provided USB memory stick.
The brave and fearless willing to experiment with the exercise system
beforehand should personally contact the speaker during the first
conference day.
